Jaisamand Lake is situated 45km from Udaipur city on state highway to Banswara. It is the India’s second largest artificial lake with an area covering around 87sq.km. Largest being the Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar in UP. The lake is also known as Dhebar lake. The lake was created in the 17th century when Rana Jai Singh of Udaipur built a marble dam across the Gomati River. The Marble Dam is 300 Meters long and is a part of the “Heritage Monuments of India“. On the marble dam are six exotic cenotaphs and a Shiva temple in the center. The lake has a total number of 3 islands measuring from 10 to 40 acres (160,000 m2) each which are populated by tribal people of Rajasthan. The lake is surrounded by dense forest area which is known as Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is spread over 162sq.km mostly consists of teak forest. It helps us to explore the rich wildlife in their natural habitat. The wildlife is live with wild boar, deer, mangoose, leopards, crocodiles, panther, four-horned antelope and various species of birds. Dhebar Lake is constructed with magnificent steps leading to the water and marble Chhatri (cenotaphs) on its shore with a small Shiv temple. Large monuments of Marble Elephants are also established at the shore of the lake. The lake is surrounded by many hills having palace atop with enchanting view of surroundings. One of hill has the famous Hawa Mahal Palace, a winter capital of Maharanas of Mewar.

How To Reach

The lake is 52 km away from Udaipur City and 27 km away from Parsad on NH 8. Jaisamand can be reached by the state highway to Baswara from Udaipur by hiring Udaipur Taxi Services or getting auto-rickshaws, Tongas, taxis or by local buses.
